Mâché Anniversary | Bring a friend to cowork with you this March!

Coworking is just better when your friends are around 💜 So to celebrate our 10th anniversary, this March, our members can invite a friend to cowork from the space for a free week.

You can bring a different friend each week of the month!

How does it work?

•  You’re coming 1, 2 or 3 times per week → your coworking friend can come on the same days you are in the space in a week

• You are a Resident or Office member → your coworking friend can come for a full working week (Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm)

Mâché was built on people inviting people. This month, we’re celebrating that, members only 😎

Member Feature | Alex Makarowsky

This month, we’re excited to welcome one of our newest members, Alex Makarowsky, to our Mâché community!

Alex is a software engineer and data scientist who has recently joined the startup Gridsight, bringing with him around six years of experience in energy systems and optimisation. Gridsight helps energy networks tackle some pretty big challenges, from overloaded grids and waves of EV and data centre connection requests to automatically detecting network faults. The secret sauce? Vast amounts of smart meter data, combined with machine learning. Smart stuff!

Outside of work, Alex is all about board games, movies, cooking and gardening. His biggest hobby? Magic: The Gathering. So if you’re ever keen for a game, you know who to find.

Get to know Alex a bit better here ⬇️

What made you choose Mâché?

We have Paddy Black to thank for that! Paddy spoke very highly of the overall 'vibe' here at Mache, and everyone has been simply wonderful. Dan Matthew probably helped seal the deal with a nice game of Scythe in the boardroom on my trial day 😅

Any must-read books or must-watch movies?

For Whom the Bell Tolls has really stayed with me. Silent Spring is the best nonfiction book I've ever read. It completely changed my understanding and perception of the environment and our impact upon it.

I also recommend 28 Years Later and 28 Years Later: Bone Temple to everyone. Ari Aster's films are also great (Hereditary, Midsommar).

Favourite holiday spot?

If you are in South America, Cusco in Peru is well worth a visit. Awesome food and even better hiking that is very accessible from there.

Go-to comfort food?

Tough - probably anything from Recipe TinEast? A veggie-positive pasta with red pesto is also up there.

One thing you absolutely can’t live without?

Beating Paddy and Dan at board games.

Favourite artist (music or any other type of art)?

Pink Floyd would probably be my all-time favourite. For visual media, I would go with the prints of Hiroshi Yoshida.

Perfect day out in Adelaide?

A walk around the Botanic Gardens in the morning, followed by a lazy drive up to the hills and a few drinks from the Scenic Hotel.

Mâché Recommends | Need to Unwind? Try This Meditation!

Take some time out to tune in and experience this guided visualisation process, ‘Imagining the Year Ahead’ by our member Nicole from Ripples Hypnotherapy.

This recording is designed to help you relax the brain and body, and attune to messages presenting from within, relevant to your year ahead and next steps.

Tapping into imaginative faculties sometimes requires a bit of practice, a bit of opening and curiosity about your inner landscape. Oftentimes, repeating the experience more than once can help you relax into it even more.

Mostly, this is a chance to allow your parasympathetic nervous system to take the fore and give your thinking mind a bit of respite. There’s some more information in these FAQs if you’re interested.

You can access the recording here.

Mâché Eats | Super Fudgey Red Velvet Brownies

Moving from savoury to sweet, this month we’re diving into a batch of Super Fudgy Red Velvet Brownies.

It’s a brilliant, plant-based take on a classic, using roasted beets for that signature deep red glow and a texture that is pure decadence. It’s the perfect treat to share (or keep all to yourself—we won't tell!).

And once again a huge shout-out to Sarah Lelliott for keeping our hearts and bellies full.

Super Fudgey Red Velvet Brownies

Ingredients

  • 2 small beetroots (300g)

  • 120 g white spelt flour (sub chickpea for GF)

  • 75 g oat flour

  • 50g almond meal

  • 150 g coconut sugar

  • 90 g unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

  • 1 tsp  vanilla extract

  • 175 ml unsweetened almond milk

  • 50 g walnuts

  • 90g vegan chocolate chips/chunks

Instructions

  1. Roast whole beetroots in foil until tender. Peel once cooled.

  2. Preheat the oven to 180ºC. Grease and line a brownie pan or cake tin with baking paper.

  3. Whisk together the flours, almond meal, coconut sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt, breaking up any clumps.

  4. In a blender, add the cooked beets, vanilla and milk, and blend until completely smooth.

  5. Add the wet blend to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined - it will be thick. Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts.

  6. Transfer the batter to the prepared baking pan and smooth out the surface.

  7. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. The brownies are done when small cracks appear on the surface and the middle is almost firm. Check at the 22min mark if you like them a little under-cooked for extra fudgy-ness!

  8. Remove brownies from the oven and let them cool completely in the pan on a cooling rack.

  9. Once cooled, transfer them to a cutting board and cut into 12 to 16 brownies.

Ready to re-commit? | Secure your rate and member benefits for the year ahead

We’re so grateful for the energy, spirit, and value you bring to Mâché. It’s people like you who make this community what it is, and we can’t wait to continue building something meaningful together.

As we celebrate 10 years of Mâché, we’ve been reflecting on the people who help shape our community every day,  and you’re absolutely one of them.

As part of this next chapter, we’re inviting our members to recommit as Founding Members for the next 12 months and beyond. Along with enjoying the space as usual, this comes with a few perks:

• Secure double meeting room credits for another year: we’ll review these as demand grows, so everyone gets fair access.

• Guest passes: bring a colleague, collaborator, or friend to Mâché for a day

• Discounts at local businesses (and more coming throughout the year)

• Price protection for 12 months: while membership rates are usually adjusted in line with CPI (2.4% this year), Founding Members can lock in a smaller increase of just 1.5% for Office and Resident Desk memberships. A slight increase that helps us maintain the quality and community you value at Mâché.

Mâché Perks & Benefits
