Our Story

Built by Adelaide,
for Adelaide.

Mâché started with a simple idea: good work happens when good people share a space. Since 2016, we've been Adelaide's home for curious minds, independent spirits, and growing teams.

More than a desk. A place where good work and good people come together.

Mâché (pronounced mash-aye) is a 100% locally owned and run Adelaide coworking space. We believe environment shapes outcomes, and we've spent nearly a decade crafting warm, thoughtful spaces that do more than just get things done.

We're for the freelancer looking for focus, the startup building something bold, the remote professional craving community, and the small team that needs a proper home base. Whatever your workday looks like, there's a version of Mâché built for it.

A decade in the making

2016
The spark: a house, a hammer, and a vision
Founder Daniels Olsson was running EcoCaddy, his for-purpose logistics business, when he noticed something: Adelaide's independent thinkers were scattered. Cafés, kitchen tables, borrowed desks. Talented people doing remarkable work, in isolation. He found a character-filled old house in the South End, a building with a past as a school and home to Radio Italiano, and saw its potential immediately. With a few mates, some tools, and a lot of energy, he built desks by hand, carved out artist booths, and created breakout nooks that felt nothing like a corporate office. Mâché Coworking was born.
The Beginning
2016–2018
The South End heartbeat
Mâché quickly became more than a coworking space. It was a cultural hub. Hundreds of community events, wellness studios, creative workshops, and late-night launches filled the building. A constellation of upstarts and small businesses called it home. The community wasn't just using the space; they were shaping it. These were the years that proved the idea: when you put curious, creative people in the same room, something electric happens.
Community Roots
Late 2018
Doubling down, moving East
Daniels watched as Adelaide's earliest coworking spaces either wound up or outgrew themselves. He was certain coworking wasn't a trend, it was the future of work. So when the opportunity came, he moved Mâché to 451 Pulteney Street in Adelaide's East End. The existing community came with him. The floor space doubled. The vision sharpened: this wasn't just a desk rental business. It was a platform for how Adelaide's best people work.
The Move
2019
Designed with intention
With a background in urban and interior design, Daniels spent 2019 transforming 451 Pulteney Street into something genuinely beautiful. Every material, every corner, every light fitting was considered. Not just aesthetically, but functionally. Spaces designed to make you feel something. To help you focus, connect, and do your best work. The result was a space that felt like a home you actually wanted to come to every day.
Design Year
2020
Covid hit, but the community held
The pandemic stopped the world. Coworking and commercial property went quiet. But Mâché's community didn't disappear. It adapted. External events paused. In their place, Daniels and his partner pivoted to hosting large, well-spaced yoga studios, keeping the space alive and the community breathing. It wasn't the year anyone planned. But it proved something important: a space built on real relationships can weather anything.
Resilience
2022
Growing the footprint
Post-pandemic, the demand for flexible, community-driven workspace surged. Mâché responded by absorbing the event and studio spaces into the coworking footprint, adding 20 desks and creating more room for the growing member community. The balance between productivity and culture, between privacy and connection, kept getting sharper.
Expansion
2024
Next door: 455 Pulteney Street
Mâché took on the neighbouring property at 455 Pulteney Street, a standalone building with its own kitchen, bathroom, and character. A new meeting room, a large private office, six car parks, and a 120sqm shed joined the Mâché family. The space now spans two addresses, two and a half floors, and 500sqm of beautifully considered workspace.
New Territory
2026
The Courtyard & Mâché Industrial Studios
Mâché's newest chapter: the Mâché Courtyard, a new outdoor communal space, and five Mâché Industrial Studios, coming soon. Compact, self-contained, and built for makers, creatives, and small businesses who need something different from a traditional office. The story isn't finished. It's just getting more interesting.
Coming Soon

Four things we never compromise on

🌱
Environment shapes outcomes
Where you work changes how you work. We've obsessed over every detail of the Mâché space, because we know a thoughtful environment produces better thinking.
🤝
Community first
The desks and offices are just the vehicle. What our members actually come for, and stay for, is the people. The chance connections, referrals, and friendships that happen every day.
📍
Local matters
We're an Adelaide business through and through. We back local suppliers, local events, and local people. When Mâché grows, Adelaide grows with it.
♻️
Sustainability isn't optional
From green energy to eco-friendly practices and conscious supplier choices, sustainability is built into how we run the space. Not a talking point. Just how we operate.
